About Werkplaats RUIM

Werkplaats RUIM / visual artist Barbara Damen creates installations and environments with mixed media: video, photography, sculpture, found objects, light & sound and performance.
Small, apparently unimportant details are enlarged and form the basic structure of intrigueing worlds, with their own regularities. In this way poetic spaces come into being, that tickle the imagination of the viewer.
The installations are site-specific, they are developed in interaction with the form and sense of the space in which the work is made and communicate emphatically to those who normally use that environment.

The installations of Werkplaats RUIM are developed both as a result of commissions and on the artist’s own initiative. Werkplaats RUIM prefers to work in public spaces. The installations can also be found at festivals, in galleries and project spaces.

In addition Werkplaats RUIM organises art education projects, courses and workshops, made to order for schools, welfare-organisations and private individuals.
